Quotes that Define Productivity

In this section, let's explore the quotes that define what productivity is (and what it is not).

My view on productivity is that it takes hard work and serious commitment. Focus is another very important foundation. These requires so much energy you might lead an imbalanced life if you don't know how to take proper breaks, rest and sleep.

In fact, rest and sleep are so important I say:

If you want to be productive tomorrow, make sure you can sleep well tonight.

However, for productivity to last, we must turn it into a habit or series of habits. For example, you can make it a habit to check email only a few times a day to boost your email productivity.

Meditation should also be another habit to adopt for a more satisfying journey of productive work and life.

Well, enjoy the quotes that capture the essence of productivity.

“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” ~Paul J. Meyer

If you want to be productive, you must be committed to the work you do, plan it well and act on it.

The ability to act fearlessly despite the discomfort and fears of uncertainty is also the essence of productivity especially if it is a difficult task or one of which you are unsure of the outcome.

For me, writing a productivity book is a good example. I haven't been productive enough because I have not been able to face my fear of producing something that others do not value.

Being productive is not enough. The question to ask yourself is this:

What are you productive in? Where will this take you a month, a year, and a decade from now?

It's ok to be productive in what needs to get done. But also be sure to be productive in what that matters to you.

We try to stop work overload by being productive. But as it turns out, being overly productive can also leave us exhausted. This happens a lot when you get in the state of flow and go long hours without a break.

It's amazing how taking a pause to breathe and meditate can alleviate our emotions that are caused by the overwhelm and chaos.

Productivity Quotes to Beat Procrastination

Procrastination is the number one enemy of productivity. In fact, people even unconsciously take beating procrastination for being productive.

This is partly true and the first and most important step towards becoming more productive.

It takes two things to take actions: motivation or habit. Action is both the cause and effect of productivity.

"Never mistake motion for action." ~Earnest Hemingway

This really hits home for me. I chose to make the text size so large. When faced with difficult task, we often go around it, instead of going through it. When it's time I have to sit down to write a book, I find myself researching, reading or even reaching out for my phone or checking emails. It happens so subtly under the radar of my consciousness.

This is motion, not action! An action in this scenario would be to just sit my butt down and... write, or stay with the discomfort of not knowing what to write.

Time Management Quotes for Work Productivity

Time management is a very important pillar for work productivity. In fact, you can't be productive if you can't even manage your time well.

Before I thought that to manage time effectively, I had to say no to what other people want me to do, but it turns out is that that is not enough, you must also have the guts to say no to what you want to do should you have time to do what matters to you.

We have less money than your Mark Zuckerbrg and Jack Ma but we have the same amount of time each day as they do. That's why we say:

Time is wealth. ~Cambodian proverb

While some productivity experts tell you to manage your attention, not time, as a lifelong student of productivity I can say that time management is important.

There are just so many things to accomplish in a day. If you don't manage your time, you won't be able to effectively manage your daily tasks. You can't just do what you want to do. There are also things that you need to do.

Productivity Quotes to Manage Attention Better

Attention management is another vital dimension of productivity. You might schedule your priorities, beat your procrastination and act but if your attention isn't focused on the task at hand, your chance to achieve excellent work will be slim.

The quotes in this section offer wisdom to focus your attention on the task you are working on.

“Focus on being productive instead of busy.” ~Tim Ferriss

This is simple but we often forget! We might be busy checking and replying to emails. Preparation for a meeting might take the whole day (including the mental preparation) leading to the actual meeting, leaving no time for nothing else.

This is a reminder that being productive should not mean taking away attention from our family. Balance between work and family is very important to live a happy life. In fact, if you're happy at home, you'll be happy at work. This makes productivity easier for you.

Of course, it's not easy sometimes but being aware of it is the first important step forward.

Focus Quotes to Boost Productivity

Productivity requires a great deal of focus. While attention and focus are synonymous, they are different.

Rass Bariaw put it so nicely in his answer on Quora

"Attention means directing your mind from random or undisciplined thinking towards a specific thought (or thoughts) or action (or actions). Focus is attention but, focus includes a concentrated form of attention, where tremendous effort is exerted to heighten and enhance the attention given."

Now that we have laid out the differences, enjoy the productivity quotes for better focus.

Flow Quotes to Awaken Creativity

Flow, focus and attention management are similar but while it requires efforts to focus and manage our attention, flow refers to the state of effortless focus on our task.

You experience flow especially when you do what you love. But there are also ways you can use to cultivate this state of mind, which could require an entire post.

Charles Duhigg's bestselling book The Power of Habits: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business is one of the best books on the topic of habit. And I love this quote in particular.

Good habits are hard to shape and easy to slip. I've developed a few of these habits myself such as reading, writing and meditation. It took me years to cultivate them but only a few misses are all it takes to forget them.

However, what I've learned from my own habit experiments is that habits, good or back, will make a comeback when the conditions are right.

Sleep and Rest Quotes for Productivity Boost at Work

Fearless Productivity Quotes

Let me begin by defining what I mean about fearlessness. Fearless productivity is, therefore, not the absence of fear but the act of getting moving despite the discomfort and fear.
